ABOUT SAMRA

Samra Morris was born and raised in Bosnia. She earned a Bachelor’s degree from the College of Agricultural and Food Sciences at the University of Sarajevo in 2008, majoring in Food Science. Immediately thereafter, she majored in Food Quality and Control at the university, completing her Master’s degree in 2010. Samra worked as a brewing intern at Sarajevska Pivara d.d. in Sarajevo in mid-2008 and then as an enologist for a year after receiving her Master’s degree. These experiences led her to embark on a career in winemaking.

Emigrating to the U.S. in 2013, she spent over a year as a tasting room associate at Hestan Vineyards in the Napa Valley. This was followed by six-month stints in Napa as a viticulture intern at St. Supéry Winery, as a cellar intern at Mending Wall Wines, and a tasting room associate at Grgich Hills Estate Winery. Samra returned to Mending Wall as a cellar intern for three months in late 2015 before joining Michael Mondavi Family Estate for a year and one-half to work as part of the cellar team. Another three-month cellar internship at Mending Wall, this time in St. Helena, was followed by working at Free Flow Wines in Napa and Sonoma for over two years, first as a laboratory technician, then as a laboratory supervisor, and finally as manager of quality control.

Mid-2019 found Samra in Buellton, California, as assistant winemaker at Alma Rosa Winery & Vineyards. A mere seven months later, she was named winemaker there. The winery focusses on producing Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Rhône Wines.
